The purpose of this course is to help students become familiar with medical devices used by consumers in home health care. Pharmacists & pharmacy students are frequently constulted about these products & are expected to have at least minimal expertise in their safe & appropriate use. Special emphasis will be placed on student understanding of the relationship between the patient's medical condition, the medical device & the provision of pharmaceutical care.

Grading:
· Course grades will be determined by 1 Exam (30%) and participation in one Group Presentation / Handout (70%)

The Exam will contain questions provided by presenters, handouts and from class discussions. The Exam will take place durning the final day of class; May 30th.

· A basic presentation grade will be assigned to the whole presenting group. An individual student presenter may be given up to a 0.5 grade point above or below the group's grade depending on their individual presentation evaluation. (see presentation evaluation handout).

· There will be no final examination during Finals Week

Presentations:

¨ Students, in groups of 3-4, will develop medical device presentations with each group member providing at least 7 to 10 minutes of the presentation.

¨ Presentations will be limited to 45 minutes for each group.

¨ At the beginning of each class, presenters will provide all other students with a 1-2 page handout (size 10 font minimum) illustrating key points needed for appropriat device usage.

¨ Four multiple-choice questions (with answers indicated) concerning key points in your presentation are required to be submitted to the instructor, along with a copy of the presentation handout, prior to the beginning of your presentation. These questions may be used in the course Exam.
